HDL cholesterol is one of three fats that make up a total cholesterol count. The other two fats are LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
HDL cholesterol is called the "good" cholesterol because higher values of HDL correlate with less risk of heart disease. Low HDL does just the opposite. A low HDL cholesterol means your risk of heart disease is higher than average.
What is the result of your HDL cholesterol test?
My HDL cholesterol is less than 20 mg/dL.
My HDL cholesterol is between 20 mg/dL and 39 mg/dL.
My HDL cholesterol is between 40 mg/dL and 49 mg/dL.
